OUR ENDORSEMENT
Why we like it.
Their tutorials, equipment advice and ongoing support have helped our team become more confident grooming our own Giant Schnauzers. We value practical guidance from people who do this work every day.
Why we’re highlighting it.
Grooming is part of our working-dog routine: familiarity, hands-on observation and consistent care at the center and on the road. We are highlighting the people who helped us build that capability.
Full review, product details & practical guidance
People regularly ask who grooms our Giant Schnauzers. The answer is that we do, and Northern California Grooming Academy has been a major part of helping us do it with greater confidence and consistency.
Grooming is part of knowing the dog
I groom every dog when it comes into our unit or center, and I encourage our specialists to participate in bathing and grooming. In our experience, that time builds familiarity and gives us another opportunity to notice changes in the dog’s skin, coat, paws and general condition.
We generally groom weekly when our operational schedule allows, often on a weekend, and we carry our equipment when we travel. For us, grooming is not just appearance. It is part of the routine of caring for a working partner.
The team’s “CSOG combat cut”
Our Giant Schnauzers have different coat textures, but we keep their coats closely trimmed for practical maintenance and inspection. We call our preferred working trim the “CSOG combat cut.” It is a team preference, not a breed-show standard or a recommendation that every Giant Schnauzer should receive the same cut.
A close trim does not make a dog infection-proof or replace appropriate cleaning, parasite control or veterinary care. Ask a qualified groomer and your veterinarian about the right coat-care approach for your dog; suspected injury or contamination needs appropriate professional attention.
Why the academy is our go-to
The academy has provided us with videos, tutorials and practical advice, including guidance on tools, paws, ears and grooming technique. When we need scissors or other equipment, we ask people whose daily work is grooming rather than guessing from a product listing.
Their team has been generous with its time and follow-up. They have helped correctional special-operations handlers and K9 specialists become more capable at caring for our own dogs, and that support is the reason for our recommendation.
Consistency at home and on the road
Regular professional grooming for a group of large dogs can become a substantial expense, especially while traveling. Developing our own skills helps us maintain a consistent routine and the working trim we prefer. When we use an outside service, we choose providers we have reviewed in advance for our team’s needs.
That is not a criticism of professional groomers. It is why education matters: knowing when we can handle routine care ourselves and when to seek a qualified professional.
