Obedience on and off leash, and obedience held while the dog is in drive. Bark and hold, on command and on release. Engagement on command. Out on command, cleanly, without a second request. Defense of the handler and of the household. Scenario work: home entry, vehicle, and pedestrian encounters. Environmental exposure and neutrality in public. Household suitability — family, children, other animals, visitors, tradesmen. Transport, kennel, crate, and vehicle manners.
That is not the product. That is the floor.
A client buying at the top of the civilian protection market is buying the finished article. For us, that same work is the entry requirement — the point at which a dog becomes eligible to be developed further.
Detection. Search. Assistance services. Protection at the operational tier. Configured to the household, not to a catalog.
Configured to the client's actual environment and threat picture. Selection, imprint, and operational practice for the substances and search patterns the household or agency requires. Delivered with documentation, not as a demonstration.
Building search, vehicle search, area search — conducted by a dog that can also live in the house and function in the household. The search dog and the protection dog and the family dog are the same dog. That is the point of the program.
Discreet public work. Travel discipline. Presence in occupied buildings without alarming staff or guests. Composure during transitions where the household is exposed — airport arrivals, hotel arrivals, event arrivals, vehicle changes.
Unfamiliar decoys. Reduced and changed equipment. Ground the dog has not worked. Scenarios the dog has not been shown. Handler decision-making under uncertainty. The measure is not how a K1K9 looks against a familiar man in a familiar suit. The measure is whether the team is still correct when it is asked a question it has not already been given the answer to.
Marble. Gravel. Tarmac. The K9s that place with our households are legible in every environment their principal is legible in. They read the room continuously, they present quietly, and they interrupt nothing that is not already wrong. A dog that cannot live in the house is not a special services dog. It is a kennel dog with a job title.
We would rather lose the sale on a phone call than lose the dog two years later. This is who we are not for — said plainly.
There is no production line here, no inventory built to a monthly number, and no dog developed before we know what it is being developed for. The number of K1K9s that leave this program in a year is small on purpose, and it will stay small.
If what you want is a finished protection dog delivered to your door with a command sheet and no further involvement, that product exists and there are companies who do it competently. We are not one of them and we will not pretend to be. Say so and we will point you to a provider suited to that category.
Households that place with K1K9 are known to Joseph personally. K9s that place with those households are known to Joseph by name for the length of their working life. Names, faces, and placements do not appear on the public site. That is the point of the public site.
RED Team reports, video, and supporting material are delivered inside client access. They are not used in marketing, they are not referenced by client name in conversation, and they are not shown to prospective clients as a demonstration of what we do for other people. What is done for a client stays with that client.
