FREE ARTICLE PREVIEW

The loudest assessment is not necessarily the clearest. Our aim is feedback that explains what happened and helps the team decide what needs review. Start with the agreed purpose and the observed result. State uncertainty directly. If the conclusion relies on a personal impression rather than a measurement, make that distinction clear.

Finish with an appropriate next question for the instructor, handler or specialist. Avoid turning every debrief into a verdict on the entire canine. A concise, accurate record can be more useful than a dramatic judgment.
